Northern lights, icebergs, fall colours and Arctic culture!

Join us in September 2025 for a photography workshop in Ilulissat and Disko Island, Greenland, as we explore one of the least-photographed (but most beautiful!) countries in the world! You’ll get a chance to work closely with our world-class tour leaders and tackle a variety of topics aimed at expanding your technical photo skills and your creative vision — all while soaking in the Arctic splendour of an incredible, pristine environment.

Many of us at OFFBEAT have a long-standing relationship with Greenland and consider the island to be the ultimate landscape photography playground.

*Because some of the local operators (such as airlines, hotels and ferries) in Greenland only release their schedules a year (sometimes even less) in advance, we are not able to provide firm dates for this event. We recommend you set aside the second half of September upon booking, as the 10-day trip will be happening some time over that span, and of course we will be in touch as soon as the final dates have been determined.

》WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

1. What to look for when shooting icebergs.

2. How to anticipate and shoot the northern lights.

3. How to use long exposures to convey your story better.

4. How to develop your vision as a landscape photographer.

5. How to assess a scene in order to capture both the wide epic photographs as well as the small, intimate ones.

》YOUR OFFBEAT INSTRUCTORS*

KRIS ANDRES // LEADER

Based in the Canadian Rockies, Kristopher considers the mountains (along with everywhere he travels) to be his second home. Kris is always up for endless adventures with a smile—no matter how "atmospheric" the conditions are. He will be overly excited in almost everything he does in life, capturing each story with the click of a shutter, in any and all genres—from adventure to landscapes to portraiture to food and more! When he’s not out creating, Kris is a full-time yogi working to refine

CURTIS JONES // LEADER

Curtis is an adventure, landscape and portrait photographer from Newfoundland and Labrador who considers Nunavut his second home. Never tiring of seeing the sun rise from a new horizon or watching a contagious smile grow on the faces of friends and strangers alike as they step out of their comfort zone, Curtis seeks to tell stories with his photographs as he lives out his own. Throughout his career, he has had the pleasure of working with worldclass athletes, artists, and production teams while shooting in some of the globe’s most raw, wild, and challenging locations. Equal parts adventurer, artist and clown, he is never far from a camera, a tent or a good punchline.

 * As per our Terms and Conditions, OFFBEAT reserves the right to change, at any time, the tour leader of any workshop.

Accommodations

Your time for the duration of the workshop is split between two comfortable hotels, one in Ilulissat, which offers stunning views of giant icebergs passing through the harbour, and the very unique Disko Hotel on the remote and rugged Disko Island.

Meals

Breakfasts will be had at the hotels. Lunches and dinners will be largely on your own (although we of course often opt to all eat together!). For those looking for sit down/restaurant meals, both villages offer a variety of restaurants. In Ilulissat, the hotel offers dining options that are excellent, and there’s plenty of choice in and around the town. As we are now quite familiar with the area, we are happy to recommend establishments if need be. In Qeqertarsuaq, the options are definitely fewer - you’ll see why when you get there. This is the edge of the Earth! The hotel serves great meals and we suspect most will end up there frequently. However, if we’re lucky, a quirky place called the Blue Café will be open to welcome us. There is also a very well-stocked grocery store right in the village.

NOTE:

Western Greenland is a wild, wild place where EVERYTHING depends on the weather and transportation is often a challenge. Think of this adventure as an expedition, where we adapt to the weather in order to get the most out of the experience. The unpredictable conditions and remoteness are partly why Greenland is such a special place, and why it’s so rarely visited. While we hope to stick to our intended itinerary as much as possible, there may be delays in flights and ferries. OFFBEAT will not be responsible for extra expenses incurred by weather delays (whether those expenses are related to meals, accommodation or rebookings) and so it is imperative that you have the necessary insurance for this trip. We also highly recommend factoring in buffers in your international travel arrangements.

Upon registration you’ll be asked to agree to these terms.

WHAT OUR PARTICIPANTS HAVE TO SAY
ABOUT OFFBEAT WORKSHOPS

“Curiosity, kindness, and light. What more could you want from your guides and other members of your community? Our trip was incredible: people, places, and personalities. From chasing the light in a ditch off the side of the road, to finding horses to rub noses with, even the most seemingly insignificant moments were memorable. And that's the beauty of Offbeat, in a nutshell: finding the impossible in the most improbable places.”

-Dave G.

“The workshop was amazing - great instruction and professionalism by the instructors. They did a great job handling the group's variety of experience and took time to help each one of us individually. They prepared well for a variety of conditions and had great locations scouted out before we arrived. Kris and Paul are excellent instructors and loads of fun!”

- Tracy B.

“I have attended a number of OFFBEAT Workshops and have loved them all. The co-founders are two of the most genuine people I have met and they are both so enthusiastic and passionate about what they do. They always ensure that you have the best time and are always willing to share their time and experience with you. My photography has definitely improved since learning from these two. I have also only meet decent and friendly people on these workshops. Everybody is there for the common goal - photography and everybody has such fun. I can not recommend Offbeat highly enough.”

— Claire C.

“I felt the level of collaboration and support among the participants in this one was exceptional and so was the size of the group. It is easier to hide in bigger groups when I feel insecure with my skills and talent. The content was timely, appropriate and exceedingly well organized. The facilitators’ presentation skills were exceptional. I came away with a little more confidence and a lot more knowledge. Thanks, Dave and Paul!!!”

-Jan L.
